Rainbow Prayer.
As one of our intercessors, Bridget Murphy, sought the Lord regarding prayer in our church, He gave her the vision of Rainbow Prayer.
The aim of Rainbow Prayer is to help families pray together and corporately within the church by having a specific focus for prayer each day. As there are 7 colours in the rainbow, so there are 7 areas for prayer identified for each day of the week. i.e. worship God, family, church leaders and members, youth and children, the unsaved, Ireland and the nations.
Rainbow Prayer brings families together before the Lord and increases the power of prayer as all the families in a whole church pray simultaneously for the same issues. There is a Rainbow Prayer pack which includes:
- • a prayer chart indicating the areas for prayer each day.
- • a prayer guide with suggestions on how to approach God in prayer and how to pray for each of the areas.
- • scriptures for prayer and meditation.
SIGNIFICANCE Thousands of years ago all the people on the earth were so wicked God had to do something to rid the world of so much evil and sin, so He made it rain on the earth until every living thing had been destroyed. Everything that is except for a man who loved and lived according to God's ways - Noah. God had Noah build an ark (or boat) in which he, his family and a pair of each creature sheltered in the ark until all the floods had gone and they were able to come out and re-populate the earth.
God made a covenant with Noah that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood and as a sign of this solemn promise the Lord created a rainbow. Every time we see the rainbow it reminds us of God's promise and His faithfulness.
In the book of the prophet Isaiah God refers again to the days of Noah. "as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth ... My love and kindness shall not depart from you ... says the Lord" (Isaiah 54:9-10 Amplified version). Everyone who has repented of their sin and has Jesus living in their hearts as their saviour has this assurance from God - nothing will ever separate us from His great love (Romans 8:38-39). And because we have that loving relationship with God, we know that He hears and He answers our prayers (1 John 5:14-15).
Then Jesus talks about the days of Noah in relation to His own coming again to the earth. "As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking and marrying, until the day when Noah went into the ark, And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away - so will be the coming of the Son of Man" (Matthew 24:37-39 Amplified version). There is much sin and wickedness in our world which God cannot tolerate. God will judge the earth again and cleanse it from sin - but the next time it will be forever. God has said that He will completely destroy His whole creation in order to do this. The Lord will create a new heaven and new earth where only those who have Jesus Christ as their saviour will live with Him forever. Only those people who can honestly say that Jesus is their Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead, will be saved (Romans 10:9).
Everyone who has accepted Jesus as their Saviour has God's Holy Spirit living within them. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the bible and God's will. He also helps us to hear from and talk to God. The Lord has promised that even though we're not sure or don't know how to pray the Holy Spirit will help us to do so (Romans 8:26-27). Always ask the Holy Spirit to help you to pray.
